Pappy's Funeral

The viewing, last night was wonderful. Pappy looked wonderful and so peaceful.
Mommy Allo was nearby.
So many nice people came, and it was wonderful to be with family.

The funeral was also wonderful. Each of Pappy's 3 sons spoke as well as son-in-law.
President Thomas S. Monson was the concluding speaker. He told a funny story about Pappy missing the beginning of General Conference one Saturday to go Duck Hunting. When he arrived late....Pappy held up 8 fingers to President Monson and grinned. Meaning he had shot 8 and arrived late. As he told the story Pres Monson held up 8 fingers. It made everyone laugh. They use to enjoy hunting together.
Pappy and Mommy Allo have dedicated a lifetime to church service. As an Emeriteus General Authority, Pappy served in many ways and in many places. Pappy and Mommy Allo served as President and Matron of the Seattle Temple, as well as Mission Presidents in Ireland and in England. They still get together each Spring to do an endowment session and to have dinner with all of their missionaries. We have gone to their mission reunions several times. There is such a power and love that they share between all of them, and their missionaries. At the conclusion of the funeral, all of their missionaries (many who flew in for the funeral), stood and sang, "Ye Elders Of Isreal." Wow! The spirit was so strong and so many thoughts flooded my mind. I am grateful for the 17 years I have known Pappy and look forward to seeing him again one day! I am grateful for the life and legacy he has left us.

Other fun things about Pappy:

He wrote the book, "Temples In The Last Days," By Royden G. Derrick.

The new planetarium at BYU is name after Pappy. The Royden G. Derrick Planetarium.
